No new end date for LRT, but new video shows testing

There is still no specific word on when residents can expect to see trains carrying passengers along Ottawa's light rail Confederation Line.

General Manager of Transportation Services at the City of Ottawa John Manconi provided an update at Wednesday's Finance and Economic Development Committee meeting.

He said the best he could do, in terms of providing a new deadline for the handover from the Rideau Transit Group is the first quarter of 2019 — meaning sometime before the end of March. However, he did tell the committee a new handover deadline will be named on January 2, 2019.

“We've been very clear with the CEO's of RTG Consortium, when you bring us a date, bring us the confidence level you can deliver on.”

Manconi added that a specific date could not be named on Wednesday due to all of the testing that still needs to be done on the rail line.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson appeared on 1310 NEWS' The Rick Gibbons Show to talk about the latest LRT developments:

A new video has been released, showing the LRT trains travelling the full length of the Confederation Line, as part of their testing.

Manconi said, until the LRT is running, transit fares will be frozen and pink slips will not be going out to bus drivers.
