An off-duty Ottawa police officer is being credited for tracking down a hit and run driver over the weekend.
According to inspector Francois D'Aoust, the officer witnessed a car hit an ambulance in the Walkley Road and Don Reid Drive area, Sunday.
The man allegedly started to flee on foot when the off-duty officer began to give chase.
Eventually the officer was able to catch and arrest a 56-year-old man.
He's since been charged with failing to remain at the scene of a crash.
There were no injuries reported in the crash.
