One man has been killed and woman has been taken to hospital after a shooting in the city's south end.

Police responded to an area near Cahill Drive and Temby Private Sunday evening for reports of a barricaded person.

A man and a woman had both been shot. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was rushed to the trauma centre with critical injuries.

Mohamud Barre has confirmed to 1310 NEWS that the man was Abdifatah Osman, a father of 2 children.

Cahill Drive was closed for several hours and residents in the area were asked to remain indoors while police searched for a suspect.

Multiple residents told 1310 NEWS they heard seven gun shots. Others spoke about how they were locked inside of their homes during the standoff.

One woman said her nine year old son first heard the shots.

“He had seen people running from the park area in behind the houses and somebody screaming 'he's got a gun, he's got a gun' and 'I'm calling the police'”.

That woman said she sent her children away to a friends house to they would be safe.

The road has since reopened and the all-clear has been given to residents.

The suspect remains at large.
