One person treated following early morning Barrhaven fire

A resident of a Barrhaven home is safe following a fire that had started in his basement in the early hours of the morning.
Firefighters attended to the scene on Elke Drive, off Merkel Drive near Fallowfield Road, at about 2:50 a.m. Saturday.
The occupant of the home ran over to the neighbour’s house reporting the fire in his basement.
Once in the basement, fire crews reported heavy black smoke and declared a working fire just before 3 a.m.
A patient was cared for by paramedics, although it's unclear what they were treated for.
An Ottawa Fire Investigator has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
