Ontario reporting decrease in COVID-19 hospitalizations

By CityNews Ottawa

Ontario is reporting 1,248 people in hospital with COVID-19 on May 18, a decrease from numbers revealed one day earlier.

On May 17, the province reported 1,345 COVID-19 hospitalizations.

Health officials are reporting 163 people in intensive care units (ICUs) today, compared to the 165 people in ICUs reported yesterday. The province is reporting 16 additional deaths related to the virus today, an increase from the 11 people who died from COVID-19 yesterday, but health officials say two of the deaths reported occurred more than a month ago.

The province is revealing 1,692 new COVID-19 cases today, but access to PCR testing is limited to certain groups. The scientific director of Ontario's panel of COVID-19 advisers has said multiplying the daily case count by 10 would give a more accurate picture.

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting nine people in hospital with COVID-19 on May 18, a slight drop from numbers reported yesterday when 11 people were in hospital due to the virus. OPH is reporting two new deaths, and no people in ICUs.
