Ottawa bylaw officers issue nearly 500 verbal warnings related to COVID-19 rules over weekend

Ottawa Bylaw and Regulatory Services (BLRS) officers have been busy ever since a class order was issued, banning gatherings of more than 25 at trailheads, toboggan hills and ice rinks.

Officers say Monday, close to 500 verbal warnings were issued at parks across the capital over the weekend related to people ignoring the public health orders.

A tweet from Ottawa BLRS says the warnings covered mask violations, hockey, and residents not observing physical distancing rules.

“It is imperative that residents follow the rules put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19,” the service writes.

The province-wide lockdown rules have restrictions on both indoor and outdoor gatherings, while Ottawa's Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches is recommending people wear masks wherever physical distancing rules cannot be maintained — both indoors and outdoors.
