Ottawa cancer foundation relaunches Catch the Ace Lottery

By Victoria Williston

A popular fundraising method used by various charities across the country is relaunching in the capital.

After an early finish last year, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation has decided to bring back its Catch the Ace lottery.

Funds raised through the popular game will go toward cancer care in Eastern Ontario.

How to play:

During the checkout process, players will be asked to select an envelope where they believe the Ace of Spades is located. If a player's ticket number is selected in the weekly draw, they win the weekly prize and their electronic envelope is checked to see if it contains the Ace of Spades.

If the Ace of Spades is found, the player wins the jackpot in addition to their weekly prize. However, if it is not in that player's envelope, the jackpot continues to grow.

“We are excited to build on the success of our first Catch the Ace Lottery that launched back in November, in order to continue engaging with our community and raising much-needed funds for local cancer care,” said Michael Maidment, President and CEO of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

A draws takes place every Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. until the Ace of Spades is caught. As of Tuesday, Catch the Ace has a jackpot of $783.

The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation will receive 50 per cent of the ticket sales to help support cancer coaching, research, and clinical trials.

“Lotteries like this have become an important way for not-for-profit organizations to raise funds as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect almost every aspect of our work. We're grateful for the community's positive response to the game, and are looking forward to seeing what happens in this second round,” said Maidment.

The first draw will take place on Tuesday, January 19. Tickets are still available for purchase here.
