Ottawa city councillor wants answers on post-LRT bus problems

By Jason White

A city councillor wants answers for residents who are fed up with bus problems since the transition to light rail.

Residents across the city have complained of buses being late and, in some cases, not showing up at all. It's left many transit riders cursing OC Transpo.

In the east end, one city councillor says her residents have reported buses that are consistently late. Innes Ward Councillor Laura Dudas adds that on some mornings, the first scheduled bus has been significantly late — something she says speaks to the larger issue of reliability with the transit service.

Since the transition to light rail, some bus route start times have been adjusted later in the morning, and Dudas says this has resulted in transit riders being late to work or caused them to find an alternative method of transportation.

Dudas wants city staff to explain what's being done to ensure that OC Transpo buses show up on time and reduce the number of cancelled trips. She also wants to know what it would take to roll back the start times on some east-end bus routes.

Dudas' request for information will be submitted at the next city council meeting, next Wednesday.
