Ottawa firefighters tackle Dunrobin-area house blaze

By Mike Vlasveld

Ottawa fire crews are working to secure the scene of a house fire on Greenland Road near Vances Side Road in the Dunrobin area.

Firefighters were called to the house at 8:37 a.m., Tuesday. When crews arrived, smoke and flames were visible from outside the home.

Everyone made it out of the home safely, although paramedics say a man in his 20's had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Five people have been displaced and are being assisted by Red Cross Canada and the Salvation Army.

Ottawa fire officials say surrounding barns and livestock were protected and not damaged by the fire.

An Ottawa fire investigator will be collaborating with the Office of the Fire Marshal, to determine what caused the blaze and how much damage has been done to the home.

The OFS is thanking its partners at OC Transpo for providing a bus as shelter from the cold weather conditions for the occupants as well as firefighters on Greenland Road.
