Ottawa, Gatineau joint water rescue operation saves person from Ottawa River near Lemieux Island

Two Ottawa water rescue teams rushed to the site to help search for a person who had been fishing and fell into the river.

One person is safe after falling off their fishing boat, into the Ottawa River.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said they received a call from Gatineau Fire Services, requesting help for a water rescue on Onigam Street near Lemieux Island in the city’s west end on Sunday.

OFS dispatched two water rescue teams to the site to help in the search for the person who had been fishing but had fallen off their boat.

Gatineau fire advised they were on location and had a visual of the person.

The person was found and rescued by Gatineau Fire Crews on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River and brought back to their shore.
