Ottawa-Gatineau zipline set to open next week

By Mike Vlasveld

The world's first inter-provincial zipline is set to host its first riders next week.

The Ottawa-Gatineau Interzip Rogers zipline opens to the public at the Zibi site on Thursday, June 24. Anyone can start booking their rides across the Ottawa River, starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, at interzip.ca.

Pre-sale ticket holders can already start booking their rides.

“Now that the border between Ottawa and Gatineau is open again, we look forward to welcoming visitors to a safe outdoor activity,” said Orkestra co-president Alex Van Dieren.

Given the unpredictable nature of the COVID-19 situation, organizers will be welcoming approximately half the number of daily riders for the first few weeks in order to ensure safe operation and compliance with the Ontario and Quebec governments’ public health guidelines.

The online booking system enables organizers to pre-schedule rides and control the number of participants at all times, ensuring an even greater measure of safety.

All Interzip employees are expected to be trained on health and safety protocols. Masks and safety gloves have been ordered for all employees.

In addition to the zipline, Zibi’s Terrasse Panorama will also be back this summer in collaboration with Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. and Gatineau restaurants' food trucks will be invited to park at the site.
