A protest was held in downtown Ottawa on Sunday, Sept. 25 in solidarity against the murder of a young Iranian woman.
Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old, was killed by Iran's “morality police” last week for not properly wearing her compulsory hijab.
Goldie Ghamari, a Progressive Conservative Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Carleton and an Iranian-Canadian, attended the weekend rally in solidarity with the riots in Iran, she told The Rob Snow Show on Sept. 27.
Honoured to join the hundreds of people in #Ottawa who came out to support the people of Iran.

Ghamari's parents immigrated to Canada when she was one so they could raise their daughters in a free, democratic society, an opportunity Iranians don't have.
“With the brutal murder of Masha Amini, this was basically the spark that fuelled the fire,” she said, explaining that what makes the riots in Iran different from those in the past is this one is spearheaded by women.
“Women are walking around without their headscarves, they're burning their hijab, young women, old women,” she said, adding that what unites Iranians is their desire for a free and democratic Iran.
