Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting six new COVID-19 related deaths on Friday, Jan. 13.
The six new COVID-19 related deaths marks 1,000 deaths from the virus the capital has seen since the start of the pandemic.
The health unit releases COVID-19 updates twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. The latest OPH update shows that 26 people are in hospital with the virus, while four people are in intensive care units.
OPH is also reporting 159 new COVID-19 cases since its last update, and five new outbreaks in institutional settings.
Meanwhile, OPH said in its latest 'Respiratory Virus Snapshot', which is released once a week, that the health unit continues to see high levels of respiratory viruses circulating in Ottawa.
This is especially important for those at higher risk.
Overall risk increases with age, and respiratory viruses can also be more difficult for those with complex medical needs & those who are immunocompromised. (3/6)

OPH said influenza activity for the current week is similar to last week, COVID-19 activity has increased since the last snapshot, while other respiratory virus activity decreased from last week.
The latest data from OPH shows per cent positivity levels of 6.8 per cent for influenza, 10.9 per cent for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and 19.8 per cent for COVID-19.
Same goes with staying home when sick, especially with school resuming.
If you’re feeling sick, please stay home to help protect those around you. (5/6)
