Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting a slight increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations on Friday, Sept. 23.

In its latest COVID-19 update, which is now provided every Tuesday and Friday, the health unit is reporting 32 people in hospital with the virus. In its last update on Tuesday, Sept. 20, OPH reported 30 people in hospital with COVID-19.

In its update today, the health unit is also reporting two people in intensive care units (ICUs) and three new COVID-19 related deaths.

There are 235 new COVID-19 cases reported today, an increase from the 219 new cases reported last Friday.

The new bivalent COVID-19 booster vaccine is available to vulnerable residents and everyone over the age of 70, with all remaining adults eligible as of Sept. 26.

In its latest COVID-19 snapshot, OPH tweeted that outbreaks are moderate and increasing. In its latest update, OPH is reporting 11 new outbreaks, while there are 39 ongoing outbreaks in institutional settings.

OPH said monitoring indicators show an increase in COVID-19 in Ottawa, and overall levels of COVID-19 remain high. Wastewater virus detection levels are high and increasing, while test per cent positivity is moderate and increasing.

"Our actions matter," OPH said. "Every single person who wears a mask in indoor and/or crowded public settings makes a difference. Every person who stays home when sick, every person who stays up to date on recommended vaccine doses, all of it. It all matters."
