Ottawa rally looking to line-up 215 trucks in support of Indigenous communities

Organizers of a “truck rally” are hoping to parade 215 rigs through the streets of Ottawa this coming weekend in a show of support for families and Indigenous communities affected by residential school atrocities.

“We can not erase the past, but we certainly can stand up and let our neighbours and the world know, that now we know,” writes organizer Lyoness Woodstock in a plea to get residents involved.

Organizers are looking for trucks of all kinds, without their trailers: bobtail, dump trucks, mixers, delivery trucks, straight trucks, water trucks, fuel trucks, fire trucks, cattle trucks, tow trucks, pump trucks.

Woodstock says participating trucks will be staged on the property of Thomas Cavanaugh Construction, on Highway 7 at Ashton Station, just east of Carleton Place, starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 20. Departing at approximately 9:30 a.m., the vehicles will travel east on Highway 417 to Kent Street, then up to Wellington Street, past Parliament Hill to O'Conner Street and back to Highway 417.

Woodstock expects the event to wrap up by 12 p.m.

“We know this is Fathers Day, but these children and their fathers never had the opportunity to celebrate the day, surely we can give up a few hours with them in mind. Perhaps you might bring your Dad along for the ride,” says Woodstock

Organizers say all necessary arrangements have been made with the City of Ottawa, the Ottawa Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police.

Woodstock is asking anyone that would like to participate to call 819-790-1281.

“As Orange is the designated colour for these lost, stolen, and abused children, please have an Orange shirt, Orange flag, or Orange Ribbon to attach to you truck if at all possible,” writes Woodstock.
