Ottawa restaurants have until mid-November to set winter patio ideas

The City of Ottawa has given restaurants owners a deadline to get their winter patio ideas in place.
Mayor Jim Watson says inspections of winter tent permits will begin on Sunday, November 15.
That date coincides with the end of the Right of Way Patio By-law (link), which has allowed businesses to implement outdoor seating.
On October 10, the provincial government moved Ottawa into a modified Stage 2, with restrictions on restaurants, bars, gyms and other businesses. Those included no indoor dining for at least 28 days.
Ottawa patio tents are required to be open on at least two sides to allow for a free and frequent exchange of air.
1/2 Following discussions between Building Code Services, the City's patio team and my office, Building Inspectors will only start checking-in on tent permits for the winter after November 15, which coincides with the end of the right-of-way summer patio program.
