Ottawa sees lowest active COVID-19 case count since last July

By Dani-Elle Dubé

For the second straight day, Ottawa is reporting a single digit case count increase while active case numbers continue to fall and new outbreaks remain at bay.

Ottawa Public Health recorded nine new cases in the capital on Sunday. Although it’s slightly up from Saturday’s six, it’s still in the single digits.

This brings the total case count in the city since the pandemic started to 27,650.

Active cases are also on the decline and now stand at 106, down from yesterday’s 118 — the lowest since last July 11, 2020.

No new deaths are being reported, keeping the local death toll at 591.

There is, however, one more person in hospital, bringing the current patient numbers to six.

Only one patient remains in the ICU.

While there are no new community outbreaks to declare, the current total of ongoing outbreaks remains unchanged from yesterday — two in healthcare institutions, two in childcare centres and schools and three in the community.

The incidence rate has also seen a drop to 8.2 per 100,000 — compared to Saturday’s 9.9.

And the positivity rate in the community remains at 1.3 per cent.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit has removed one case from its total count on Sunday. The unit did a similar move on Saturday when it took away six cases from its count.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit has no new cases to report, while the Renfrew County and District Health Unit only has one new case.

Ontario recorded 287 new cases across the province on Sunday.

This brings the total case count since the pandemic started to 544,204.

Twelve new deaths have been added to the provincial count, bringing the death toll to 9,126.

The province reported completing 18,524 tests since Saturday. Of those, 1,5 per cent were positive — that’s up from Saturday’s 1.1 per cent.
