Ottawa Senators to host “Love is Love” night during Tuesday’s game

The Ottawa Senators are hosting their first “Love is Love” night on Tuesday — a celebration of Ottawa’s LGBTQ population and a reminder of the need to fight homophobia in the NHL.
The promotion is coming in conjunction with WinterPride, which takes place on Sunday afternoon. It’s the first time that the Senators have done this. The team said in a media release that there will be “unique activations throughout the evening, including special messages of inclusion and equality,” and a “live 80’s cover band” playing “iconic love songs at the top of Gate 1.”
The game is part of the NHL’s ‘Hockey is for Everyone’ initiative, which “looks to celebrate all p people who play or watch hockey regardless of race, colour, religion, national origin, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic status or disability.”
Several Senators players will also be taking part in the WinterPride on Sunday. According to the team, Mark Borowiecki and Anders Nilsson will be marching in the parade, which kicks off at Parliament Hill at 12 p.m.
