Ottawa St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Party postponed amid COVID-19 concerns

The Irish Society of the National Capital Region and Beau's Brewery have decided to postpone St. Patrick's Day celebrations planned for Ottawa.

A downtown parade followed by a party at the Aberdeen Pavillion were scheduled for Saturday, March 14.

The Irish society issued a statement Thursday, saying even though the City of Ottawa and Ottawa Public Health are assessing the risk of COVID-19 transmission as low, the logistics of their events would make it difficult to follow the recommended guidelines for social distancing.

“We believe postponing the Ottawa St. Patrick's Day Parade and Party is the right and responsible thing to do,” the society said.

It's statement goes on to explain that the society and Beau's are still planning to host the parade and party later this year, but is issuing refunds to ticket holders who request it.
