Ottawa’s COVID-19 positivity rate continues to inch upwards

After a week of record-breaking COVID-19 numbers in the province, Ottawa’s not showing signs of slowing down either as the city’s stats show the positivity rate continuing to climb.

According to Ottawa’s COVID-19 Testing Taskforce, Friday’s numbers show Ottawa now has a positivity rate of 4.7 per cent — that’s up another half-per cent since Monday.

Friday’s report also shows that the task force also swabbed 1,474 people at its assessment centres on Thursday, with 6,219 tests performed on the same day.

There are still 3,671 tests in progress as of Friday.

The Brewer Park test centre tallied in the most swabs at 364 on Thursday. This was followed by the Moodie Drive location with 236 swabs and the Heron Road location with 232 swabs.

Ottawa Public Health reported a record-breaking 210 new cases in the city on Friday and one new death.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic started to 10,960, and death toll to 395.

There are currently 977 active cases in Ottawa — 24 of which are in hospital and seven in the ICU.

The number of resolved cases now stands at 9,588.
