Ottawa’s new City Council set to talk cannabis retail stores at special meeting

By Mike Vlasveld

New Ottawa City Councillors will be sworn in on December 3, and they'll be wasting no time in diving into the debate surrounding pot shops in the city.

On December 13 at 10 a.m., at a special meeting, council will consider a report and receive public delegations on Ontario's legislation regarding cannabis retail stores. This will include considering whether or not to permit cannabis retail stores in Ottawa, period.

The report will be released to the public at the council's first meeting on Wednesday, December 5.

It will be available on e-agenda later that day.

Residents, groups and organizations are welcome to speak to the report on December 13, by registering as a public delegation.

Because Council is meeting as Committee of the Whole, public delegations will be permitted to make a five-minute presentation to Council. The city says delegations will present in the order they register.

A public delegation can register by completing a form at the meeting, or by contacting Tara Anderson at Tara.Anderson1@ottawa.ca or 613-580-2424 ext. 27156 in advance.

The city is asking that everyone follow the rules for attending a meeting.
