Ottawa’s Rainbow Bistro to remain open for at least another few months

By CityNews Ottawa

After announcing its closure earlier this month, Ottawa's Rainbow Bistro will be staying open a while longer.

President and CEO Danny Sivyer says a group of local CEOs agreed to cover cost shortages for the next three months, so shows can continue.

“They were tired of seeing all the music clubs closing, like Barrymore's and Zaphod's and Babylon — everybody's gone,” he explains. “And they said they didn't want to see the Rainbow go like that.”

Sivyer says it buys the bistro some much-needed time.

“[To] find a buyer or find or find along-term solution to get us through the COVID times. Our problem is we're limited to how many people we can have in a room at one time.”

Sivyer says it's difficult to turn a profit under its current 50-person capacity limit, but he's hopeful the pandemic will improve in the new year and capacity will be increased.
