Ottawa’s skating season begins; two local rinks opening this week

By Alex Black

Sharpen your blades and lace up your skates!

The skating season is set to begin this week with the opening of two rinks in Ottawa.

The Jim Tubman Chevrolet Rink is opening on Thursday, November 26 and the rink at Lansdowne Park is scheduled to open on Friday, November 27.

The City of Ottawa has some guidelines for safe skating during the pandemic, including limiting your ice time to 30 minutes when rinks are busy so everyone gets a chance to skate.

Each rink has its own capacity limit, based on the size of the ice surface, to ensure all skaters can maintain proper physical distancing.

The Rink of Dreams at Ottawa City Hall and the Ben Franklin Rink in Centrepointe are expected to open next week, weather permitting.
