One person and a dog are being treated following an east-end fire at a townhouse.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Autumn Hill Crescent near Orient Park Drive in Blackburn Hamlet Thursday at about 5:30 p.m.

Ottawa Fire Services said they received multiple calls and reports of flames showing through the roof of a two-storey middle unit townhouse.

When crews arrived, they saw the second floor of the structure was fully engulfed in flames and a working fire was declared.

The occupants had also called 911 to report their family dog was still in the home.

Firefighters were able to located the small dog, who was still breathing, and administered oxygen to the pet.

Ottawa Police Services transported the pet to a veterinary hospital for assessment.

A patient was also in the care of Ottawa paramedics.

The fire was declared under control at about 6:15 p.m.

An Ottawa fire investigator is on scene to determine the cause of the incident.

The Canadian Red Cross is assisting those affected by the fire.
