Pink Shirt Day in Ottawa schools

By Jason White

Ottawa schools are encouranging students and the broader community to be kind, as they mark Pink Shirt Day.

This year's Pink Shirt Day theme targets cyberbullying.

Several students have been preparing for the day; Grade 12 art students at Sir Robert Borden High School created ten different Pink Shirt Day silkscreen t-shirt designs. Kindergarteners at Severn Avenue Public School spent Monday tie-dying t-shirts to be worn today, while students at Colonel By Secondary School will get a special temporary tattoo and a pink bracelet to be worn throughout the day as a sign of unity and acceptance.

Multiple schools also have anti-bullying presentations planned.

Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 in Nova Scotia, when two teens encouraged their fellow students to wear pink t-shirts in support of a fellow student who was being bullied.
