Randy Hillier surrenders to Ottawa police; charged with nine offences in connection with convoy protests

An eastern Ontario MPP is facing nine charges in connection with the trucker convoy protest that paralyzed Ottawa's downtown core in February.
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has arrested and charged Randy Hillier, 64, of Perth, with the following charges:
- Mischief/Obstruct Property Exceeding $5000
- Counsel An Uncommitted Indictable Offence (Mischief) (two counts)
- Mischief/Obstruct Property Exceeding $5000
- Obstruct/Resist Person Aiding Public/Peace Officer
- Obstruct/Resist A Public Officer (two counts)
- Assault Peace Or Public Officer
- Counsel An Uncommitted Indictable
The police investigation into Hillier, who is the Member of Provincial Parliament for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston, began in February after police received multiple complaints about social media posts and other activities as part of the illegal protests.
Hillier has surrendered to police and is due in court for a bail hearing in Ottawa on Monday, March 28, 2022.
