Redblacks ask fans to help tackle hunger

The Redblacks will participate in Purolator's “Tackle Hunger Day”, an annual food drive for the Ottawa Food Bank.
Fans who attend the game at TD Place on Saturday July 13, at 4:00 p.m., where the Redblacks will play against the Montreal Allouettes, are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item or cash donation.
Food collection will take place at all gates, and fans who make a donation will get a chance to win giveaways and take a photo with the Grey Cup.
Late last month, Kevin Brown II, a linebacker and Jonathan Newsome, a defensive lineman, got to learn about the cause while participating in a food sorting challenge with the Ottawa Food Bank. They learned that the summer season is a critical time for the food bank as food gathered during the Christmas season only lasts until about April.
The food bank asks that participants bring healthier food items like lentils and chick peas.
Last year, the game day food drive brought in about 24,920 pounds of food for people in need.
