Registration for city’s new Virtual Arts and Recreations Centre workshops, classes opens this week

You might not be able to get to a gym to get fit or sit in a classroom to produce your artwork, but the city will still be providing those spaces.

The city’s new Virtual Arts and Recreations Centre will kick off this week — an online centre that offers classes from anything to learning a new language, recipe or instrument and beyond.

And it can all be done from the comfort of your home.

“Staying active and occupied with live-streamed, interactive classes is a perfect way to promote physical and mental well-being,” the city said in a statement.

The centre offers a mix of short workshops and multi-week courses that will start on Monday, January 25 for every age group.

Programs include:

  • Language classes (French and Spanish)
  • Science, technology, engineering and math programs
  • Cooking classes
  • Virtual arts: drawing, painting and digital arts
  • Fitness: Zumba, bootcamp, yoga
  • Dancing: ballet, hip hop and others
  • Martial arts, Tai Chi
  • Leadership programs

Winter class offerings will be online on the city’s website on Monday, January 11, with registration starting on Thursday, January 14 at 9 p.m.
