Renfrew health unit ramping up COVID-19 vaccinations for vulnerable seniors

By Alex Black

There will be a big push over the next two weeks to get residents in Renfrew County long-term care (LTC) homes vaccinated for COVID-19.

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) says the move is in accordance with the new provincial mandate to have residents of LTC and high-risk retirement homes vaccinated with their first dose by Friday, February 5.

The health unit says it has already completed the first on-site clinic, at Valley Manor Nursing in Barry's Bay.

The RCDHU adds that staff and essential caregivers will receive the vaccine at a later date, when vaccine supplies stabilize, and that more information will be released as it becomes available.

“It is our firm hope that keeping our case numbers low and rolling out the vaccines will put this behind us,” says acting Medical Officer of Health for RCDHU Dr. Robert Cushman. “Remember, we need to work together to stop the spread of COVID-19. Stay home. Stay Safe. Save lives.”
