Montreal Road will see some underground work conducted, and the City plans to dish out $25 Million dollars to resurface the street and make it more appealing to pedestrians and cyclists.

The City is set to add bike lanes onto the curb on Montreal Road, next to where pedestrians walk.

Phillipe Denault is a member of the Safety Committee of the Vanier Community Association, he told Ottawa Today with Mark Sutcliffe that the bike lanes would be a safety concern to pedestrians.

"[The bike lanes] shouldn't be on the same level of pedestrians. Maybe it could be just on the asphalt, maybe they should just have a bike lane that's protected from cars," said Denault, adding that a child could easily walk onto the proposed bike lanes.

The proposed plans are currently in the design phase, with construction expected from 2019 to 2021.
