Senators signing forwards Brassard, Dal Colle to professional tryouts

The Ottawa Senators are signing forwards Derick Brassard and Michael Dal Colle to professional tryouts, general manager Pierre Dorion announced on Thursday, Sept. 15.

For Brassard, it's a return to the Senators after he played two seasons in Ottawa from 2016-2018 — helping the club to an Eastern Conference Final run in 2017 with 11 points in 19 playoff games.

The 34-year-old centre split last season between the Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers, producing 19 points in 46 games.

Dal Colle was a number five overall pick in 2014, but hasn't found his footing in the National Hockey League (NHL). In 112 NHL games over five seasons, all with the New York Islanders, the 26-year-old has eight goals and 13 assists.

Last season, Dal Colle played almost the entirety of his campaign with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL), registering 22 points in 39 games.

Dal Colle played under Senators coach D.J. Smith in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Oshawa Generals.

The professional tryouts announcement comes just a day after the Senators signed winger Tyler Motte to a one-year contract, adding to what's been a transformative off-season in Ottawa.
