Sex abuse victim confronts Ottawa’s public school board, demands answers

Ottawa's largest school board is addressing sex abuse allegations against three former teachers, and publicly apologizing to students harmed.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board's director of education has penned an open letter, addressing the allegations.

“On behalf of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, I extend a heartfelt apology to any current or former students who've experienced harm by an employee of the OCDSB,” said Dr. Jennifer Adams.

One of the victims came forward to confront trustees at their board meeting, pointing out that while news reports have revealed details of the sex abuse allegations against the three former teachers, an internal probe came up empty.

“An administrative review found that nothing was done wrong in the past,” said Marc Leach, a former student. “Clearly, and undeniably, that is not the case.”

“All we want is the truth, and we don't want the truth being hidden,” said Leach.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is being sued by multiple former students in lawsuits over the sex abuse. The school board plans to defend itself against the suits.
