Snowsuit Fund getting set for month-long, socially-distant winter fundraising campaign

The Snowsuit Fund is encouraging residents to take pictures or videos of themselves making a snow angel this February, to raise awareness for Ottawa children who need proper clothes to bundle up in this season.

The Snow Angel Challenge starts on Tuesday, February 1 and runs throughout the month.

Last year people across the city made snow angels in their winter gear, bathing suits, costumes, or with their pets, and posted pictures and videos online. School children with families, teachers and classmates, corporate teams, media personalities and local celebrities all got in on the fun. 

Mayor Watson posted his own snow angel video and declared Snow Angel Day in Ottawa. This year that day falls on Friday, February 18. 

All of Snow Angel Challenge proceeds go directly to support the purchase of snowsuits. This year, the Snowsuit Fund is partnering with Giant Tiger Stores Ltd. as a Major Snow Angel Challenge Partner and Donation Matcher. The leading discount retailer will match donations up to $50,000 with new snowsuits of equal value to help families in need.

Outdoor play makes a fundamental contribution to maintaining mental health and physical well-being, as well as supporting ongoing learning and development. Having warm winter gear is a critical component for outdoor play in Ottawa, especially as we navigate the challenges of COVID. 

Residents can register for the Snow Angel Challenge as an individual or team and win rewards. Everyone who registers and raises a minimum of $20 will receive a limited-edition Snowsuit Fund winter accessory. High achieving fundraisers (individuals and teams) can earn additional rewards.
