South Glengarry mayor resigns over sexual assault, child luring charges

By Mike Vlasveld

The mayor's chair in South Glengarry is being vacated.

Mayor Frank Prevost has resigned after being charged with one count of sexual assault and three counts of child luring, as a result of two separate investigations.

He was arrested and charged on June 8, 2021.

Prevost is in the middle of his second consecutive term as Warden of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry, and has been in municipal politics for over 20 years.

A special council meeting is set for this week, where South Glengarry representatives will decide whether to hold a by-election or to select someone for the remainder of the municipal term.

His next court appearance is set for January 5.
