TD Ottawa Jazz Festival goes virtual for 2020 edition

By Alex Goudge

After having this year's edition cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival has announced a series of virtual concerts starting on June 19.

The festival, dubbed 'Tenacity', features live and pre-recorded performances from eight-five artists including BadBadNotGood, Elisapie and Dan Tepfer's Natural Machines.

Local animators have also created visuals to pair with the pre-recorded performances.

The online festival is hosted by jazz critic and writer James Hale. Each performance will feature a live chat before or after the show.

Programming Manager Petr Cancura says festival-organizers are looking forward to the ten-day festival.

“We're very excited by this endeavour which continues our tradition of providing high-end, intimate performances that connect the artist and the audience but in a new medium,” Cancura explains in a statement. “We are presenting superlative artists in original projects developed just for our Tenacity series.”

TD Ottawa Jazz Festival's 'Tenacity' runs between June 19 to 28. The festival's programming is available on their website
