The prime minister joined an anti-racism protest on Parliament Hill, taking a knee as thousands joined to denounce anti-black racism and the death of a black man in Minneapolis under the knee of a white police officer.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived at the event, Friday afternoon, wearing a black cloth mask. He had declined to say in the morning whether he would attend, but arrived mid-afternoon with his security detail.
Thousands joined the demonstration, beginning with speeches and tributes at Parliament Hill before a march through downtown Ottawa.
The Ottawa protest is one of several events in Canada, Friday, following days of demonstrations against racism and police brutality in numerous American cities.
