Two people have been killed in an overnight collision involving three transport trucks on Highway 401 in Kingston.

Around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, October 13, three detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Kingston Fire Department and Frontenac Paramedics responded to the crash in the westbound lanes of the highway, near Gardiners Road.

The initial police Investigation shows an eastbound transport truck crossed over the centre median, entered the westbound lanes, and crashed into two other transport trucks.

Two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say names are being withheld until family members can be notified.

South Frontenac OPP, with the assistance of an OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) team, are investigating what caused the collision.

Highway 401 is closed westbound from Gardiners Road to County Road 6 with a detour in place.
