Environment Canada is issuing a special weather statement for Ottawa and the area, as it says there is the potential for a heavy snowfall event this weekend.
Snow is expected to start falling on the capital early Saturday morning, as a strong low pressure system approaches eastern Ontario from New England.
Environment Canada says the snow may become heavy through the day and continue into Saturday night before easing on Sunday.
Snowfall mounts of 15-to-25 cm are possible by Sunday morning.
The weather agency warns that hazardous winter driving conditions are expected from this snowstorm. Motorists are advised to change travel plans accordingly.
Environment Canada also thinks the area could see some patchy, freezing drizzle on Thursday, into the early afternoon.
