UPDATE: Cyber security incident to blame for Kemptville hospital ER shutdown

By Mike Vlasveld

The emergency department at Kemptville District Hospital remains closed after a cyber security incident.

The hospital tells CityNews on Friday, October 22, tech experts have been called in to contain the attack, as well as evaluate the full scope of the situation

The Ontario Provincial Police's cyber crime unit has been notified.

The tech issue, which started in the early morning hours on Thursday, October 21, means outpatient x-rays and ultrasounds are also on hold.

The hospital says day surgeries and total joint replacement surgeries will continue, but there could be delays in registering patients, because it will be done on paper, rather than through the computer system.

The emergency department will reopen when systems are restored, but no timeline has been given.
