Ottawa Fire Services' Public Information Officer had to practice what she preaches.
A van from a carpet cleaning service caught fire in Danielle Cardinal's driveway Wednesday morning.
She called the fire service, grabbed a fire extinguisher and stayed a safe distance away from the flames while using the device.
Cardinal said she used the “pass” method with the extinguisher; pulling the pin that locks the hand lever; aiming the hose nozzle at the base of the fire; squeezing the lever slowly to release the extinguisher chemicals; and sweeping the nozzle from side to side.
The PIO tweeted that fire crews arrived to check the vehicle for any fire spread.
No one was injured in the incident.
