‘Very proud of the response our citizens have given us:’ Ottawa mayor reacts to Stage 3 reopening plans

By Chris Kurys

The Mayor of Ottawa is 'appreciative' of the Ford government's decision to include Ottawa in its plan for Stage 3 reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Jim Watson says Ottawa has been able to progress to Stage 3 on Friday because of its residents.

“I'm very proud of the response our citizens have given us over the course of the last several months,” said Watson, adding that he thinks the capital region has been a “good role model for other jurisdictions to work collaboratively with our public health units”

He explained to 1310 NEWS that it's of the utmost importance to continue following the guidelines of health officials, from physical distancing, wearing a mask and washing your hands.

“We have to approach it with an element of caution, we don't want to celebrate too soon because there are still cases each and every day,” said Jim Watson.

In Stage 3, most businesses will be allowed to open their doors to allow patrons inside, including restaurants, bars, gyms and movie theatres.
