Wild goose chase for Ottawa water rescue crew

By Jenn Pritchard

The Ottawa Fire Water Rescue crew were called to Mooney's Bay early Saturday morning to help with an unusual rescue.

A large Canada goose was spotted in the water and appeared to be struggling.

When they arrived, the team noticed that one of the bird's wings was tangled up in some fishing wire.

It's believed the bird got tangled when it was coming in for a landing, hitting the wire on the beach and dragging it into the water.

The crew were able to cut the wire and bring the goose safely to shore before handing it off to Ottawa Bylaw officials.

The bird is now in the care of a wildlife facility where it is being checked out and treated.
