A reminder from local emergency services to stay off ice surfaces.

Around 3:50 p.m. Saturday, paramedics responded to the Ottawa River, near the Sir George-Etienne Cartier Parkway and Massey Line, where a woman had gone through the ice.

The 58-year-old woman had fallen through the ice while walking with her dogs and a nearby bystander was able to help get her out of the water after about five minutes.

According to Postmedia, one dog is believed to have drowned and the second dog was able to make it to shore and was found safely in a wooded area.

The woman was treated on scene by fire and paramedics crews and taken to hospital in serious, stable condition.
