The Ottawa Senators have placed Alex Formenton and goaltender Matt Murray in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol, bringing the number of Sens players directly impacted by the virus to eight.

Ottawa's COVID-related roster crisis has worsened in recent days.

On Wednesday, defenceman Josh Brown entered the league's protocols, joining the likes of Austin Watson, Nick Holden, Connor Brown and Victor Mete, who were all placed in COVID protocol since the week started.

Monday's Senators practice was called for precautionary reasons amid the outbreak.

At this time, the Sens' game on Thursday against the Los Angeles Kings is still set to be played.
