The Liberals have inserted a weighty endorsement by former U-S president Barack Obama into a party email to potential campaign donors.

In a tweet Wednesday, Obama said the world needs Justin Trudeau's ``progressive leadership now,'' and urged Canadians to re-elect the man he called a ``hard-working, effective leader'' who has taken on major issues like climate change.

Campaigning in Quebec, Trudeau welcomed the comments, and tweeted back, ``Thanks my friend, we're working hard to keep our progress going.''

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer was unfazed by his rival's big-name endorsement, saying he has millions of Canadians behind him and he's not interested in what former foreign leaders are saying.
