The Liberals have inserted a weighty endorsement by former U-S president Barack Obama into a party email to potential campaign donors.
In a tweet Wednesday, Obama said the world needs Justin Trudeau's “progressive leadership now,'' and urged Canadians to re-elect the man he called a “hard-working, effective leader'' who has taken on major issues like climate change.
I was proud to work with Justin Trudeau as President. He's a hard-working, effective leader who takes on big issues like climate change. The world needs his progressive leadership now, and I hope our neighbors to the north support him for another term.

Campaigning in Quebec, Trudeau welcomed the comments, and tweeted back, “Thanks my friend, we're working hard to keep our progress going.''
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer was unfazed by his rival's big-name endorsement, saying he has millions of Canadians behind him and he's not interested in what former foreign leaders are saying.
