Facebook notifies users in privacy crisis

The more than 620,000 Canadians affected by the Cambridge Analytica scandal will begin getting notices today.

Facebook users who have been affected by the Cambridge Analytica scandal will begin getting notifications today.

Most of the 87 million affected users are in the U.S., but the data-mining scandal also affects more than 620,000 Canadians.

The notification to affected users comes in the form of a detailed message on your Facebook news feed.

Meanwhile, another message is going out to all 2.2 billion Facebook users, with a link to information on which apps they use and what information they've shared.

Cambridge Analytica allegedly used ill-gotten Facebook user data in its efforts to sway elections, but the political data-mining firm says it only ever received data on 30 million users.

The federal and British Columbia privacy commissioners are both investigating Facebook.
