Alcohol a factor in death of woman who drove off a boat launch

Wendy Holmes has been pronounced dead, five days after being rescued from Upper Rideau Lake.

A 57-year-old woman, rescued after driving her car into Upper Rideau Lake, has passed away.

Ontario Provincial Police at the Rideau Lakes detachment said alcohol was a factor when Wendy Holmes drove off a boat launch on Forrester's Landing Drive last Friday night, around midnight.

Officers arrived within five minutes of the incident to find a fully submerged vehicle, about 50 m out from land.

An OPP Emergency Response Team member and a volunteer firefighter dove into the water and freed Holmes from her vehicle, eventually taking her to safety.

She remained in critical condition at a Kingston hospital before being pronounced deceased on Tuesday.
