Assault causing bodily harm charge laid in Kanata road rage incident

By Mike Vlasveld

A 47-year-old Ottawa man is facing a serious assault charge after an altercation on an off-ramp of Highway 417 in Kanata.

Officers responded to a call of road rage on Saturday, March 2, at 7:20 p.m., between Moodie Drive and Terry Fox Drive.

The vehicles involved were a blue BMW car and a white Chevrolet Cruze — both of which were traveling westbound and exited the highway at Terry Fox Drive.

Police say two men, each driving the vehicles, got out of their cars on the off-ramp and started to fight.

One of the alleged drivers, Stuart Nicol has since been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with assault causing bodily harm. He was released on a promise to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on April 3.

The other man involved in the altercation was transported to hospital, treated for non-life threatening injuries and later released.

Acting Sergeant Bell is investigating this incident and is asking anyone who may have witnessed it to contact the Ottawa OPP at 613-270-9171 or 1-888-310-1122.
