Busy long weekend for police downtown

By OttawaMatters Staff

The Ottawa Police Service handed out over 100 provincial offence notices and warnings during its long weekend safety enforcement operation in the downtown area.

Increased foot patrols in the ByWard Market, Sandy Hill and Montreal Road areas, focused on illegal and “disruptive” behaviours.

Officers issued 71 warnings over liquor seizures, and 14 warnings for smoking marijuana.

Sixteen notices were issued for possessing open liquor, and police nabbed seven distracted drivers.

Police say they also checked several downtown bars, accompanied by inspectors from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
