Charges laid in 'smash-and-grab' robberies on Merivale Road in Carlington

Officers were able to track the suspect after reviewing video surveillance and talking to witnesses in the area.

A 24-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges after police responded to alarms from businesses on Merivale Road near Kirkwood Avenue, in the Carlington neighbourhood.

Officers say there were mulptiple commercial alarm calls in the area between 11:48 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, and 1:09 a.m., Wednesday.

Three businesses had been the target of smash-and-grab style break and enters.

After reviewing video surveillance on location and interviewing witnesses, officers say they were able to get a physical description of the suspect.  The description was then conveyed to patrolling officers who were able to find and arrest a man nearby, without incident.

Andrew Sicard has been charged with:

  • Breaking and entering to commit theft (two counts)
  • Breaking and entering with intent 
  • Mischief under $5,000 (three counts)
  • Failure to comply with probation (two counts)

He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
